Chief Medical Officer

Job No: 166589
Location: Darwin, NT

  • Make a real difference in an Aboriginal community-controlled health organisation
  • Enjoy a healthy work/life balance with limited outside of business hours calls
  • Competitive salary package circa $300,000+ (commensurate with skills and experience)
  • Relocation assistance available - let us help you make Darwin your new home!
  • Focus on strategy and governance, with only one day per week of clinical practice (or no clnical hours - by negotiation)

Our Story:

Danila Dilba Health Service is an Aboriginal community-controlled health organisation that has been proudly serving the Biluru (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) communities in Yilli Rreung (greater Darwin) since 1991. We provide culturally-appropriate and comprehensive primary care services to ensure we’re doing everything we can to close the healthcare gap in Australia.

Our purpose is to advance the physical, mental, cultural and social well-being of the Biluru people in our community through innovative, culturally safe and effective programs.

We now have a rewarding opportunity for our next Chief Medical Officer to join our team and begin overseeing the clinical governance of the organisation.

The Benefits:

In addition to a competitive total salary package of circa $300,000+ by negotiation, the successful candidate will receive a host of benefits in return for their commitment, including:

  • 6 weeks Annual Leave
  • Vehicle Allowance
  • Professional Membership and continued professional development
  • Medical Indemnity Insurance up to $5,000
  • Relocation assistance negotiable for candidates outside of Darwin

Additionally, you will enjoy the benefits of a stable, safe and supportive work environment with plenty of variety from interacting with a wide range of community members and stakeholders from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.

You’ll also have the unique opportunity to enjoy a healthy work/life balance, with very limited after-hours work and a supportive workplace culture. This means you’ll have plenty of time to explore all that Darwin and the Top End has to offer in your downtime.

Most importantly, you'll be joining a team of passionate and dedicated individuals who are committed to making a positive impact on the local community. Here you will be able to voice your ideas and opinions, as the organisation embraces opportunity and encourages its people to be innovative, strive for excellence and deliver on our commitments.

Your Next Opportunity:

We have a rewarding opportunity for our next Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to join us and begin overseeing the clinical direction of the organisation and provide expertise to the CEO, Executive Management Team (EMT) and the Board.

As our next CMO, you will have the opportunity to oversee the clinical governance and risk management within the organisation. This doesn’t mean you need to relinquish the opportunity to make a direct impact in our clients’ lives – in fact, your strategy can be informed by clinical practice, as you’ll be able to spend one day per week working as a clinician within our health service (or take it off).

Based in our corporate office in the heart of Darwin CBD, you will on occasion travel to our clinics throughout the area, all of which are located within a maximum 30 minute drive.

Primary Responsibility Areas:

  • Policy development and implementation
  • Ensuring clinical excellence
  • Financial management and control
  • Advocacy

You will also have the opportunity to work collaboratively with our Deputy Chief Medical Officer, who will oversee the leadership and development of our General Practitioners while you focus on strategy and high-level management.

You should have an understanding of the complexity of social determinants of health, and be committed to continuous improvement of the patient journey. Your understanding of the culture and history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, combined with your highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, will allow you to effectively engage with a range of stakeholders including government, community members and our Board.
