About the Organisation

Danila Dilba Health Service is an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation providing culturally-appropriate, comprehensive primary health care and community services to Biluru (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) people in the Yilli Rreung (greater Darwin) region of the Northern Territory.

The mission of DDHS is to improve the physical, mental, spiritual, cultural and social wellbeing of its clients through innovative comprehensive primary health care programs that are based on the principles of equity, access, empowerment, community self-determination and inter-sectoral collaboration.

About the Opportunity

Danila Dilba now has an exciting leadership opportunity for a full-time CEO to join their team in Darwin on a 2 year contract with the view to extend.

Working closely with the Board, this role will see you responsible for providing strong leadership, enabling Danila Dilba Health Service to achieve its strategic and operational goals. In this position you will also be responsible for actively engaging and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, effectively communicating the organisations vision and strategies. 

Some key duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Assisting and supporting the Board in the development of strategic directions for DDHS;
  • Providing contemporary leadership across DDHS to ensure organisation alignment to the strategic plan, vision, values and strategic objectives;
  • Leading an advocacy strategy and policy for DDHS to influence decision makers on policy issues related to Aboriginal health and wellbeing;
  • Developing and strengthening strategic stakeholder relationships and partnerships within DDHS and with key external stakeholders including government, funding bodies, media, service partners, sector networks and forums and the community;
  • Developing and maintaining a culture of innovation, service quality and continuous improvement;
  • Overseeing and maintaining the organisations risk management plan and business continuity plan; and
  • Adhering to all organisational policies, procedures, standards and practices.

This is an identified Aboriginal position; exemption is claimed under Section 8 (1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975.

About You

Danila Dilba Health Service is seeking a driven Executive Leader with a minimum of 5 years experience, who has established a successful career in corporate services and/or health services. Strong conceptual and analytical skills, with the ability to apply these skills in strategic planning, business development and advocacy, will ensure your success. 

Due to the nature of the role, you must have an understanding of Aboriginal history, culture and aspirations, along with knowledge of community controlled health organisations and how they operate. You must be able to work collaboratively with people from a range of cultural and social backgrounds. A background in advocacy and/or any network relationships within the NT will be highly regarded.

As you will be building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, it is essential you possess superior relationship management, communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

In addition, the successful candidate will have working knowledge of risk management frameworks as well as funding arrangements and funded programs.

Importantly, Danila Dilba Health Service is also looking for someone who will build a culture of innovation, creativity and continuous improvement.

  • A Criminal History Check
  • Ability and preparedness to obtain a Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card)
  • Current driver’s license (desirable)
  • Current First Aid Certificate or be willing to gain one within six months of commencement
